Henri Chatelard (Jean Gabin) is the owner of a restaurant and a cinema and he frequently checks his business during screenings. The cinema is packed while showing Georges Lampin’s L’idiot (1946).
Later on the film, he admires Murnau’s shots while dreaming a new life in the South seas. The film showing is F.W Murnau’s last one, Tabu (1931).
